1 Download the Application:

2Double-click the install package that was downloaded to run the installer. Follow the prompts to install it. It will probably default to displaying in your dock. You can decide later if you want to keep it there or not.

3Launch the application. When prompted, enter your login criteria.

4 Once you’re logged in, you’ll see the main interface. This is a simple drag-and-drop interface. Open a Finder window, navigate to the file you want to upload to your Kindle, and drag it to the Send To Kindle application.

5As soon as you drop the file onto the application, the window will change and offer you a few choices. This is where you can choose to add a title and author to the document, choose how it is delivered (wi-fi or Whispernet), and the device(s) you want to send it to. Keep in mind that sending documents via Whispernet will carry charges. Make sure you’re aware of them before using that option.

6Now that you’ve set your options, press Send. The document will be uploaded to Amazon and in a few minutes will be distributed to the designated devices.  Upload times depend on your connection speed and the size of your file.

Click Upload and wait for the process to complete.

7When your file has finished uploading you’ll see this screen:

Success! Your upload is complete.

And, voila! That’s it. Pretty simple.

The Send to Kindle application has some other interesting functions. It can act as a printer driver and an option to “Send to Kindle” will show up in your printer list. It will convert your document to PDF and upload it.

NOTE: In the ‘OPTIONS’ menu of the application, you can allow for PDFs to be converted to Kindle files automatically. The default is OFF, so it needs to be turned on to be used.

What We’re Looking For

Location – we are currently most interested in local talent
Experience is desirable, but we’re also okay with helping you develop your skills in narration.
Multi-voice ability (ie: accents, characters, etc.)
Storytelling ability (ie: keep the listener interested)
Recording capability for auditions – does not have to be a professional set up.

How it Works

When clients request our audiobook services, we usually ask them to indicate any special requirements they have for the narrator. That could be a gender, age, or accent preference. They will also provide us with a budget for the narrator. Once we have those specifics, we will make our own suggestions for narrators for the project via audition clips. We will contact you regarding the narration opportunity and include a sample script of the actual text for you to narrate — usually between five and ten minutes long. You will send us your best take for that audition and we will forward it on to the client and they will choose the narrator.

Once the narrator has been chosen, we will schedule recording sessions to track the audio. Depending on the length of the book, we will schedule multiple sessions in which to complete the book.

Compensation ranges from $10 to $50 per finished 1/4 hour depending on skill level. That means that the final length of the finished product will determine the total payment amount. Audiobooks always take longer to record than they end up being, but we can usually get a close estimate on how long the audiobook will be when it is finished by using page and word counts. As an example, if a book is 4 hours in finished length and the narrator is being paid at $25 per 1/4 hour, the final amount would be $400 — even if the recording took 7 hours total.

We pay upon completion of the recording. We do ask for some flexibility in the need for recording pick-ups once the audiobook is in post-production, though this is not frequently necessary.
